Stanley Michelman, in memory of his grandson Evan Lee Ungerleider who passed away from Tay-Sachs disease, dedicated his life to combating Tay-Sachs and related genetic disorders. Stanley, along with Lois Neufeld, founded the JGDC in 2005 to raise awareness about the importance of carrier screening. He also advocated for the importance of consulting a genetic counselor so that couples would better understand the need for testing and also obtain accurate results. The JGDC has reached thousands of medical professionals, clergy and lay community people through “JGDC In Your Community” programs. Stanley’s dedication and the reach of the JGDC programs have made a great impact toward helping assure healthy families.
